My Journey Into University Life and Overthinking It All
Starting university felt like opening a new chapter of my life—exciting, nerve-wracking, and overwhelming, all at once. I stepped into this experience with a backpack full of dreams and, well... a little too much overthinking. If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably wondered: Am I doing this right? or What if I fail? Spoiler: We’re all figuring it out, and that’s okay.
Dealing With Overthinking
I’m a classic overthinker. I believe in symbolism and that everything happens for a reason. It’s comforting but also exhausting when you analyze every little moment. That awkward class introduction? Overthinking. The professor’s comment on my assignment? Definitely overthinking.
But here’s what I’ve realized: university isn’t about perfection; it’s about progress. No one else is thinking about your “cringe moments” as much as you are. Everyone is caught up in their own story. When I remind myself of that, it gets easier to breathe.
Finding My Balance: Psychology, Work, and Growth
As a psychology student, I’m fascinated by people—how we think, act, and feel. I want to dive deeper into research, travel to share knowledge, and, someday, help people who feel unheard. Studying psychology has made me reflect a lot on my own mind and how I navigate stress.
- Tip: When overthinking hits hard, focus on small, achievable tasks. Instead of worrying about everything, I write down just three things I need to do that day. It works wonders.
The Pressure to “Have It All Figured Out”
I’ll admit—being in university makes me feel like I should have my entire life planned already. Everyone talks about their “five-year plans,” but the truth is, most of us are just winging it. And that’s okay!
“Living a good life isn’t about having it all figured out—it’s about learning, failing, and growing along the way.”
- Overthinking won’t solve anything. Journaling or talking to a friend helps.
- It’s okay to not know everything. Uni is about learning, not perfection.
- Take breaks and have fun. Freshman year only happens once—make memories.
Final Thoughts
I’m still figuring out university, overthinking everything, and learning to trust the process. Maybe you’re on the same journey, and if so—let’s remind ourselves that it’s okay to move slowly, mess up, and try again.
